Meet the Team: Why This Work Matters to the People Behind TBC

Meet Dion Maas from Thom Brokerage & Consulting and hear why working alongside Indigenous communities across Canada is more than just a job.

When you work at TBC, it's not just a job. It's a commitment. We're a small team doing something significant—working alongside First Nations communities across Canada to address real, urgent needs.

From fire protection assessments to infrastructure planning, equipment sourcing to funding navigation, we show up as partners, not outsiders.

Today, meet one of the people making that work possible: Dion Maas, Sales & Operations at Thom Brokerage & Consulting.

How Did Dion Join TBC?

Dion's path to TBC reads like a parable about spotting talent. He wasn't scrolling job boards. He was working the drive-through at Tim Hortons when Brenden Thom, TBC's Founder, started coming through regularly.

Brenden noticed something—positive attitude, reliability, genuine care for people. One day, Brenden handed him a business card. Two weeks later, Dion started at TBC.

"I didn't apply for this job," Dion says. "But Brenden saw something in me, and I'm grateful for that."

Now, roughly two years in, Dion works with communities across Canada, directly affecting thousands of lives. He's involved in every phase—from first contact through delivery to ongoing follow-up.

What Dion does at TBC:

  • Fire protection assessments — evaluating community safety gaps and infrastructure needs
  • Equipment sourcing — finding the right vehicles and assets for operational challenges
  • Community engagement — first contact, relationship building, understanding needs
  • Delivery & ongoing support — making sure equipment arrives, teams are trained, and follow-up happens

When we ask Dion how he feels about the work, his answer is simple: "I love my job."

What Makes This Work Meaningful?

For Dion, this isn't about crunching numbers. It's about real, tangible impact on real people.

The difference TBC makes:

When TBC sources a coach bus for a community, Dion knows what that means: families can travel to the city to access groceries, medical appointments, and services.

When equipment arrives, kids, elders, and entire households benefit. When we work on fire protection assessments or infrastructure planning, we're strengthening safety outcomes for entire nations.

"It's about access—housing, clean water, food," Dion explains. "These aren't abstract concepts. They're real needs. And getting to be part of the solution, to see the positive effect on people's lives—that's what I love most about this work."

The bigger picture:

  • Not just transactions — Every vehicle or piece of equipment is part of a community's operational foundation
  • Real relationships — Dion and the TBC team engage genuinely, not transactionally
  • Lasting partnership — Support doesn't end at delivery. It's ongoing

Why Dion Matters at TBC

Dion embodies what TBC is built on: authenticity, follow-through, and genuine commitment. He's not here for prestige or a paycheck. He's here because he believes in the work.

Communities know the difference. They feel the distinction between someone showing up to help and someone showing up to genuinely partner. Dion is a partner—and that matters.
